Part 6

Today we are going to briefly talk about Part 6 and then begin our look at Deconstructionism.

Tomorrow you should be finished with Anna Karenina and you will have a take home test.

By the end of the week you will be working on Deconstructionist Essays.

Make sure you have your Part 5 summaries posted and that you have done the Shmoop multiple-choice questions.  I will be putting these in the grade book.  It looks like we need more practice with multiple choice questions.  So far the average score is a 45%.

Monday

Today - we are going to perform your poems and then I will give you time to work on your Readers Response essays.

Remember for the essays:

1) It should mention the reader and the reader as an active participant in the process of interpretations.
2) Possible topics could include:  Characters - how you or society would interpret a character today (or what a character means today).  You might briefly research how the book was view in its day (vs. how it is view today).  Or, How you, as the reader, make sense of certain scenes or situations.  Or, how something in the book relates to your life.  Or you can look at the gaps in the book - what is missing, and perhaps how you make sense of what is missing.

There really is not wrong topic - as long as you connect it to the reader.

3) The essays need to be 2-3 pages and are due on Friday.

Remember, also that we are moving on to PART 6 on Friday as well.

Particularly looking at the Dinner Party chapters 9-14 (PART 4)
Anna's and Vronsky's peasant dream in Part 4.
Alexey Karenina's forgiveness of Anna in Part 4.

Also think about the contrasts in couples/marriages

Kitty/Levin vs. Anna/Alexey

Stepan/Dolly vs. Anna/Alexey

Summary Part 3 vs Part 4.  (think THEMES)

Part 3 - Levin and the peasants
Alexey and divorce
